VISION

Our vision is a northwest Toronto community uplifted by opportunities to engage with professional theatre as audience members, artists, and students.

MISSION

Our mission is to provide relevant and accessible professional theatre in northwest Toronto while creating growth opportunities for emerging and future theatre arts workers.

VALUES

Relevance: Theatre that reflects its audience’s identities, stories, and interests.

Accessibility: Theatre with a lowered barrier to entry and convenience for all, including those with financial, physical, mental, and developmental needs.

Growth: Theatre that provides educational and professional opportunities for those seeking a career in the arts.

Crossroads Theatre (formerly Shakespeare in Action) was formed over 30 years ago with a vision of providing exposure of Shakespeare’s works to youth in Toronto. For decades, Shakespeare in Action introduced plays and the playwriting craft to young generations through its school-based programs, multi-year Toronto Library programs, and recurring workshops aimed at making classic theatre accessible and exciting.

Today, Crossroads Theatre has matured into an award-winning theatre company that offers a wide variety of programming for students, teachers and the community, including workshops, mainstage productions, and summer day camp programs. With a dedicated home in the Weston neighbourhood, Crossroads has focused its attention on the local community, offering educational programming, artistic development opportunities, and professional theatre performances for free or at an accessible cost.

Broadening our focus beyond Shakespeare’s works, Crossroads Theatre tells universal human stories that reflect our audiences; we increase access to, and appreciation for, professional theatre; and we act as an incubator for new playwrights, actors, and theatre technicians.
