Shakespeare For Teens Summer Camps!
In 2009, we launched our first ever Shakespeare for Teens Camp. Following the success of our camps for kids, we realized that teens wanted a more intensive program that helped them explore Shakespeare and performance in more depth. Over three weeks, teens aged 13 – 16 rehearse and perform one of Shakespeare's more challenging plays. Workshops and rehearsals are lead by professional theatre practitioners, and participants are encouraged to develop their own interpretations of Shakespeare's works.
The details for 2010 are as follows:
- Shakespeare Teen Camp (Ages 13 – 16): July 12 - 30
Shakespeare in Action Studios, Central Commerce Collegiate Institute, 385 Roxton Rd, Toronto.
Interested teens do not have to have participated in our kids camps, and don't need to have experience in drama or performance.
Participants learn to act, improvise, construct costumes, build puppets and design sets. The program runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, Monday to Friday for three weeks.
Theatre Ritual:
Engaging young people in the art of presentation and storytelling is an invigorating exercise that fosters literacy, promotes self-confidence and engenders well-being. By linking the participatory elements of music, voice, movement, set and costume design to the process, we are taking these young children on a journey to discover the rituals of creating live theatre. Each company presents a final production of an abridged Shakespeare play. Parents, extended family, and members of the community are invited to attend. It could be the launching pad for a Canadian actor, writer, set designer or theatre impresario!
